BlueCross BlueShield Coverage Availability & Fees
When it comes to determining how your BlueCross BlueShield policy works, there is a general framework that applies to most policies. It may look something like the following:
- 80-100% preventive care
- 70-80% minor restorative services
- 50-70% major restorative services
- 25-75% for orthodontics
How much or if your BlueCross BlueShield policy covers orthodontics will depend on your individual plan. Since it is commonly viewed as separate from your dental insurance coverage, you must review your policy to find out if it’s included and how much your insurer will agree to pay.
While Invisalign and traditional braces may be covered up to 50%, there may be some exclusions as part of the plan (i.e., the age of the patient receiving treatment).
Even with orthodontic coverage, you will be expected to pay a portion out of pocket; however, this is often dependent on if you have a copay or coinsurance, if you’ve met your deductible, how complex your case might be, the type of treatment you choose, and the number of office visits you will need.
