My Story
Why Did You Want
to Become an Orthodontist?
At the early age of thirteen years old, Dr. Witt’s interest in the field of orthodontics was ignited. Following a
series of orthodontic treatments, he was amazed by the results. Not only was his smile completely transformed,
but also a newfound sense of confidence emerged. The ability to provide the same feeling to patients daily
represents one of the most rewarding aspects of his job.
Education
Where Did You Study Orthodontics?
Dr. Witt was born and raised in Winchendon, Massachusetts. He graduated from Cushing Academy. He began
his undergraduate studies at Michigan State University for two years, transferred, and then graduated
from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a Bachelor of Science (BS).
Dr. Witt spent the next four years at the University of Connecticut’s School of Dental Medicine, where
he received a Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD). Subsequently, he was accepted into the University of
Washington Seattle’s highly competitive Orthodontics program. There he was awarded a Certificate in
Orthodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD).
Teaching Experience
Where Do You Teach Orthodontics?
Dr. Witt is proud to share his experience and expertise with the dental students at UConn, where he has been teaching for several years. Because of this, he had the honor of placing the doctoral hood on his daughter, Dr. Julia Witt, who graduated from the UConn School of Dental Medicine and plans to follow in her dad’s footsteps by going on to receive her specialty training in orthodontics and continue the tradition of excellence he has established.
My Passion

Susan have now been happily married for over 31 years. They have nine children together ranging from 13 to 29
years old. Three of their children aspire to pursue careers in the field of dentistry.
Dr. Witt has volunteered for over 29 years as a part-time faculty member in the Department of Orthodontics at the
University of Connecticut.
